How do I qualify as income-eligible for community solar?
In Maryland, a household is income-qualified if its income is under the limit for its household size, or if anyone in the home takes part in a programme such as SNAP, OHEP, Medicaid or HUD housing assistance. Either one is enough.

Maryland
Income-qualified households receive a higher discount than other households. Everyone else still receives the standard discount.
New Jersey
Income does not change the discount. Farms must reserve capacity for income-qualified households, so qualifying can place you on a farm sooner.
How we handle it
We ask your household size and one income question, then route you to a project you actually qualify for — different farms accept different income-qualification documents.
Which Maryland income-qualification route should a household use?
Maryland community solar has two household routes: income for the household size, or participation in an accepted assistance programme. A household does not have to meet both. Programme examples include SNAP, OHEP/MEAP, TCA, Medicaid and HUD housing assistance. Answer the household question using the programme the household actually participates in, rather than choosing a programme merely because its name is familiar.
The online form first asks household size and uses the applicable income threshold from maintained state data. A household of one should not compare itself to a threshold for four. Where there is no threshold row, the form does not invent one. If income does not qualify the household, an accepted programme can still provide the independent qualification route.
Why does New Jersey income qualification not change the discount?
New Jersey community solar income qualification helps a household get placed on a farm sooner. It does not create a higher discount than an otherwise comparable New Jersey subscriber. New Jersey programme routes include SNAP, Medicaid, NJ FamilyCare, USF and LIHEAP. These programme names belong to the New Jersey household review; Maryland's OHEP/MEAP wording should not be substituted for a New Jersey benefit.
A New Jersey household that does not qualify still receives the same discount. Lower Your Bill uses the qualification answer to match placement, not to advertise a larger percentage. Our New Jersey enrollment is residential only; a business should ask about commercial rates and bill auditing rather than filling out a household-income answer for a commercial account.
Do I need to upload income papers to start?
Lower Your Bill's online enrollment form asks household questions and the electric bill, not income-document uploads. The electric bill identifies the utility account and actual usage. Household qualification helps identify suitable projects. These are different pieces of information: the account balance is not proof of household income and a benefit letter is not a substitute for the electric account bill.
Different farms accept different qualification documents when documents are required. Tell us which programme your household is in and what document you have; we confirm what the matched project accepts. We do not publish an invented universal expiry age or promise that every farm accepts a family member's card. Our guide explains the known state routes and separates them from project-level acceptance.
What if I am unsure or do not have a qualifying document?
Choose the answer that reflects your situation and let our team review the account. Not having an income document does not prevent starting the electric-bill review. Maryland can qualify through the household-income route, and households that are not qualified can receive the standard discount. New Jersey's discount is the same either way. A documentary question should not be mistaken for a credit check or an equipment purchase.
Lower Your Bill is partnered with over 30 solar farms and routes households to projects whose requirements fit them. Call 732-314-5010 if the household member, account holder or programme paperwork is unclear. We explain the next project step rather than asking you to guess. Income qualification does not promise a placement date; credits appear within the next 2-3 billing cycles after utility processing.

What documents prove income eligibility?
Community solar projects accept different income-qualification documents; a universal farm-by-farm checklist would be misleading. Tell Lower Your Bill which household programme you participate in and we match the project, then confirm any documentary requirement. The enrollment form itself does not ask for income uploads.
